Seco’s Steadyline vibration-damping tooling welcomes new spindle interface options for its turning/boring bars. The latest bars, which feature HSK-T/A63, HSK-T/A100 and Seco-Capto C8 machine side connections, bring the line’s high-performance results to even more applications.

The HSK-T/A connection allows the tooling to perform static turning operations on lathes with HSK-T spindles as well as boring operations on machining centres with HSK-A spindles. HSK-T and HSK-A are fully compatible, the difference being that HSK-T features one driving slot with reduced dimensions and tighter tolerances. The HSK-T/A63 is available in 6xD and 8xD lengths, while the HSK-T/A100 is available in 6xD, 8xD and 10xD lengths.

The Seco-Capto C8 connection complements the existing C4, C5 and C6 sizes. It is available in 6xD, 8xD and 10xD lengths.

Steadyline turning/boring bars reduce unwanted vibrations in extreme cutting conditions via a “dynamic passive system” inside the holder body, allowing for high metal removal, less machine tool stress and smooth part surface finishes.  This allows turning and boring operations to achieve long reaches that are not possible with conventional bars, or higher cutting data compared to a conventional bar with the same length. The compact, modular GL connection on these bars provides high centring accuracy and repeatability of the fitted turning tool or boring head, as well as fast tool changes.

Following market demand, ISCAR is expanding the PICCO inserts’ application options (new product families) and insert sizes.

PICCO RM/LM- For machining small medical parts:

An optimized insert geometry and carbide grade for machining medical parts made from titanium, stainless steel and other difficult to machine materials.
 The new family includes profiling inserts for minimum bore diameter range of 0.5 – 4.0 mm.

PICCO RHD/LHD 050 IC902- For machining hardened steel up to 65 HRC

An optimized insert geometry and carbide grade for machining hardened steel – up to
65 HRC.
The new family includes profiling inserts for minimum bore diameters in the range of 2.0 – 7.0 mm.

PICCO RHD/LHD 050 carbide inserts when compared to equivalent CBN inserts increases as their size (bore diameter) becomes smaller. 
The price of the inserts is much lower when compared to equivalent CBN tipped inserts.

PICCO RX/LX050- For boring applications

ISCAR is introducing a new PICCO RX/LX050 boring family of inserts, featuring a much stronger cutting edge when compared to the existing PICCO R/L 050 family of inserts that are suitable for both profiling and boring operations. The new inserts provide higher tool life in boring applications.

Due to its stronger design, the new family can be used only for boring applications (increasing the bore size). However, as this is a very popular application and it provides much better performance when compared to the existing 050 boring and profiling inserts, it should be selected as a first choice for boring applications.

The inserts feature internal cooling channels close to the cutting edge. They are available for minimum bore diameters in the range of 2.0 – 6.0 mm.

Sandvik Coromant has taken another step in the development of fine boring technology by introducing CoroBore® 826, a groundbreaking high-precision (HP) coolant tool for trouble-free machining and close hole tolerances.

Machine stops caused by chip tangling around the tool or spindle are a common problem in fine boring. With the high-precision nozzle, CoroBore 826 HP directs the high-precision coolant jet to the cutting edge in order to efficiently control and break the chip. Chips are then easily evacuated from the hole.

Combined with the user-friendly stepwise scale setting of the tool diameter provides the perfect tool for accurate fine boring.

CoroBore 826 HP is the ideal first choice fine boring tool for requirements in the range of 36–1260 mm (1.417–49.606 inch). It is optimized for process repeatability, hence ensuring excellent surface finish and close hole tolerances.

FEMCO is all set to prove its mettle yet again. The Taiwanese leading CNC manufacturers will demonstrate their latest CNC technologies at the upcoming IMTS 2014, Chicago. The company is gearing up to showcase live action of CNC machines such as BMC-110R2 Horizontal Bore Mill, CNC lathes like HL-55/2000, HL-35DMSY and HL-25 DM designed for high speed precision turning and milling. The exhibition is scheduled from September 17-20, 2014 and FEMCO will be exhibiting from booth South Hall 8021.

BMC-110R2BMC-110R2

FEMCO’s BMC-110R2 horizontal boring mill features stress-relieved Meehanite castings for all major components and uses induction-hardened box ways on all three axes. The headstock, column, base and cross-slides are lined with Turcite to promote wear and slip-stick characteristics. Designed for large work pieces, the machine’s 56.69″ × 62.99″ worktable offers a load capacity of 13,889 lbs. (Image above)

The BMC-110R2 features a 35-hp, 50-taper spindle motor and a two-speed gearhead to enable maximum metal removal during heavy machining operations. The 4.33″-diameter spindle provides a stroke of 19.69″. X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 78.74″ × 70.87″ × 66.93″, respectively, and precision glass scales on all three axes help to ensure accuracy and repeatability. The machining center also features a 60-station Automatic Tool Changer or an optional 90-station tool magazine. It is equipped with a FANUC 32i MB CNC control and FANUC servo-drive system. An external chain-type chip conveyor system quickly and efficiently removes chips. Options include a through-spindle coolant system and a full B-axis rotary table with contouring capabilities.

HL-35DMSYHL-35DSMY
FEMCO’s HL-35DMSY CNC lathe features a 23-station Durga turret, which is designed to reduce production time by providing enough live tools to complete complex parts without changing tools. The machine features two spindles with a Y axis and 11 live tool stations. The dual spindle enables users to machine the inside and outside of a part to produce a complete part at one time. According to the company, this helps improve accuracy because the machinist is not moving the part to a different machine. The lathe has a 10″ chuck, 2.93″ bar capacity and 4,000-rpm spindle speed.

 

HL-55HL-55/2000
FEMCO’s HL-55/2000 CNC lathe is designed for heavy cutting on large work pieces. The solid wraparound box way construction is designed for precision turning of large work pieces. All mating surfaces are lined with Turcite to provide wear and slip-stick characteristics. The rigid, 45-degree slant-bed construction, combined with precision components, ensures consistent high accuracies and quality finishes, the company says.

The lathe features a two-speed ZF gearbox for maximum metal removal at lower spindle speeds. The main spindle features a standard 15″ chuck, and 18″ or 21″ diameter chucks are available as options. A 35-hp Fanuc motor with a maximum spindle speed of 2,500 rpm powers the spindle. The lathe features a maximum turning diameter of 24.4″, and it has an extended turning length of 75.5″ for longer work pieces. The extra-wide, 12-station turret employs bi-directional positioning for faster indexing times. The lathe also is equipped with a chip conveyor and a programmable tailstock.

HL-25 DMHL-25DM
FEMCO’s HL-25 DM CNC lathe is designed for high speed precision turning and milling. The lathe features a Durga 23-station, twin disk turret and sub spindle for increased productivity. The turret is said to provide quick setup times and fast chip-to-chip tool changes. This twin disk turret allows for 12 tools for OD turning and 11 tools for ID turning. All ID tool stations can be equipped with radial and axial power-driven tools for maximum turning and milling versatility. The main spindle is equipped with an 8″ chuck and a 20-hp, 4,800 rpm spindle with 2.02″ bar capacity for greater machining capabilities.
