EMO MILANO 2015, one of the most lively industrial exhibitions, was held at prestigious exhibition centre of Fieramilano – Milan, Italy from 5th – 10th October this year. The Manufacturing Industry across the world witnessed grand participation of more than 500 leading companies of Italy, followed by companies from Germany & Taiwan.

Live demo of Tool Preset & Measuring management system given by Speroni SpA was the special attraction of event. Speroni’s vast display varied from Tiny tool dia. 20 microns to a giant size tool dia. 500 weighing 500 Kg. with top class precision throughout the range was one of the highlights of the show.  The company also offered Tool Management (TM) interface with partners with vending machine Supply point , CAM interface Edge Cam.   Live display of total integrated solution was another attraction that mesmerised the audience.

EMO MILANO 2015 event was deemed part of the Industrial Policy of Italian Ministry of Economic Development, who carried out several initiatives in cooperation with Ice-Agenzia. The show involved display of amazing product mix of advanced machine tools, precision tooling system, manufacturing & Process Automation and Metrology & Quality Control Systems, Quality Assurance software and many other process sophistication techniques.

Team Adolfus from ACOE has stepped forward to participate in the National event conducted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) and they are presenting their project, namely ‘Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC)’. Mr Arun Singh, Project Guide, informed that the competition is being held at New Delhi from 16th – 18th January 2015.

Team Adolfus from Alard College of Engineering & Management consists of six members, who are actively involved in this project.

Team Adolfus has manufactured an efficient three wheel aluminium (6082) human power vehicle (1f2r) named ALBEDO within a time span of two months. The input human energy to output vehicle velocity ratio is 1:3 which was made possible by manufacturing of a customized constant mesh gear box along with above mentioned qualities. The vehicle also consists of a braking system of single hand applied two disc brakes attached to rear wheels, this provided efficient braking system. It also equipped with secure rollover protective system to compliment safety parameters. The boot space is sufficient enough to carry a 20 kg mass without affecting the gear ratio.

Special Case
In last two years, Vora Industries has developed lot of new products for industries like medical implant, aerospace and automobile industry where the requirement is very different, as the material and geometry changes in order to develop high-end tools.

Recalling a special case Jainesh says, “We developed a very niche product for Bosch, Germany. This tool was supposed to be very accurate with at least 12 step length on the tool. The tool diameters were ranging from 3mm to 30mm and the accuracy required for this was extreme. But the machine helped us to do the job without a hitch. We finished the operation and saved time on production too. I would say it would have impossible without the help of Speroni machine.”

After Sales and Service
Sales service plays a major role when a manufacturer purchases a machine. To address to its customers, Speroni always takes an extra effort. They send their engineer to the customer’s factory to train them and come back only if after the operator is confident. Apart from this they continuously visit them to provide time-to-time training.

“For such high-end machines, customers are always worried about the after sales service and spare parts. I appreciate Speroni’s work in India, the team here has helped us import the spare parts within a week and installed the parts on time. Not only this, they have experienced service engineers across India to help the customers. I really appreciate their effort for training our operators to maintain the machine, operate, inspect, etc. Generally, we got a week’s training from others, but Speroni provided almost 30 days of training,” says Jainesh.

Building Confidence
If a tool is not in the right geometry, the overall job’s performance would be different and later affects the productivity of the customer.

“What was important for us was to attain the accuracy to measure the geometry of the tool. The quantum was not important but the quality was,” he says.

While trying out various brand cutters and inspected on our Tool presetter Walter could give us the dimensions we were looking for.”

Talking about the same for Walter tools Sanket (M/s. S G Enterprises, Partner) says, “Usha Enterprise was using HSS small size cutter with conventional methods by number of passes and inspect & re-inspect method. For making grooves of 6 mm width with 50 microns tolerance took lot of time, efforts, operator dependency & rejection chances. If the slitting was 6 mm width they would use 2 mm tool then shift it and check the size. This whole process was time consuming & no quality assurance.” He adds, “Once Usha Enterprises bagged order of 10 components that they had to deliver within 2-3 months time, they initiated talks with some reputed big names cutter suppliers. The reason being, the then existing conventional method and tool would have taken them 6-7 months to achieve the target. But no one could find the right tool to meet the desired parameter.
