Having emerged as the fastest growing economy in the world, India is transforming its manufacturing industry with a clear objective to become an essential part of the global supply chain and is leveraging the renowned Hannover Messe for yet another time for promoting the ‘Make in India’ programme, being
steered by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Briefing the media at the Hannover Messe last evening, Mr Shankar said India has to take part in the development of a globalised manufacturing environment. “ The ‘Make in India’ is a strategic initiative to reform the manufacturing industry in the country ”. Reaching out to the global technology majors to
invest in India with strategic collaborations with Indian industry, the Secretary , Department of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises, said the country is working with a clear vision and strategy to be the world’s preferred manufacturing destination by a series of initiatives like improving ease of doing
business, liberalising foreign direct policy in most of the industries, including defence production. The country has recently announced new policy initiatives like pricing freedom for hydrocarbons found in the deep waters.

He said with a strong domestic demand, India provides an excellent alternative for the global industry with Chinese economy slipping into painful slowdown. A lot of interest is visible at the Hannover Messe for India’s new initiatives in the manufacturing sector.

As part of strengthening and deepening relationship with the German technology giants, a new progamme ‘ Industry 4.0’ has been unveiled . It is a meeting of real and virtual worlds in manufacturing and involves the full integration of manufacturing technologies and systems to make a ‘smart factory’.
The smart factory is a highly flexible manufacturing set-up that is digitally interlinked with every aspect of the manufacturing ecosystem, from suppliers to customers.

Speaking on the occasion, EEPC India Chairman, Mr T S Bhasin said, the Indian engineering industry is taking several steps to move up the value chain and is now getting increasingly into areas like spacecraft components, aero-space, defence production, automobile and railways , among others. “There is a
realisation that with prices of commodities like steel and iron ore remaining subdued and subject to cyclical fluctuations, Indian engineering has to invest in R and D and forge new tie-ups with global majors from countries such Germany. India attaches a great importance to Hannover Messe as a global
platform which was used last year with India being the Partner Country”.

India will leverage its reputed IT industry to transform manufacturing not only in India but also at the global scale with the new concepts such as smart factory, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things which itself is projected to be USD 15 billion for India by 2020.

The Indian Machine Tool Manufacturer’s Association (IMTMA), is ready to take the manufacturing sector by storm with the first edition of Delhi Machine Tool Expo 2015. With prime focus on manufacturing solutions of the regional industries. The Delhi Machine Tool Expo will be a one-stop destination to display technologies and solutions needed to upgrade and improve productivity and quality requirements and demonstrate solutions to manufacturing industries especially SMEs.

The Delhi Machine Tool Expo 2015 is being held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from August 20 to 23, 2015. S Korean CNC manufacturer Doosan is all set for Machine Tool Expo, Delhi. The CNC major will demonstrate its latest technologies and is gearing up to showcase live demonstrations of its machines like turning centers and Vertical Machining Centre at Hall 11, Stall I-105. Delcam has added a series of enhancements to its PowerSHAPE Pro software for modelling and reverse engineering that will help users to complete complex designs more quickly and more easily.  In addition, a combination of new, more efficient, code and the extension of multi-threaded calculations to many commonly-used tasks will make the software significantly faster than any previous version.

By offering a combination of solid, surface and direct modelling, together with reverse engineering, PowerSHAPE Pro provides the most comprehensive range of design techniques available in a single CAD program.  Having all the different technologies in the same package reduces the need to transfer data between multiple programs and so streamlines any modelling-for-manufacture projects that require both reverse-engineering and CAD functionality.

The first enhancement in the 2016 release allows groups of features to be copied between two solids in a single operation.  While the features do not need to be of the same type, the most common application is expected to be in copying patterns of holes with a single click from one solid to another, for example from one mould plate to any other plate in the mould stack.

Another new option to save modelling time is the ability to edit the axis direction of any number of surface or solid primitives simultaneously.  Similarly, the axis direction of a group of primitives that are not aligned can be brought into alignment in one operation.  PowerSHAPE Pro already had the ability to edit simultaneously the dimensions of groups of primitives.

For customers using PowerSHAPE Pro to capture data for reverse engineering, the software can connect directly to most scanning hardware to capture and display scan data in real time.  In the 2016 release, it has been made easier to switch between measuring modes when using devices that offer data collection by both laser scanning and point probing.

Reverse engineering has been made easier for prismatic parts, with the new ability to identify planes, cylinders, cones and other primitives, or to create wireframe arcs and lines, directly from probed points.  This approach can often be more accurate than using scan data to create prismatic areas of a model.

The ability to replace regions of complex, free-form geometry with a single, shrink-wrap surface was introduced in PowerSHAPE Pro 2014 R2.  In the new release, it has been made easier to re-orient such surfaces interactively and so place them in the most appropriate surface alignment.

In addition to these new options, a wide range of speed improvements has been made to the core modelling functions.  Specific items affected include opening and displaying models in both wireframe and shaded views, displaying any single layer that had previously been drawn, projecting curves onto multiple surfaces, replaying complex solid history trees, selecting solid features, either graphically or using the history tree, and selecting multiple faces of a solid.

The degree of improvement varies according to the size and complexity of the model but can be as much as 40% faster with larger models.

The machine tool expo is a business-to-business exhibition that will encourage manufacturing industries and SMEs to reach for higher quality, productivity and achieve competitiveness by adopting modern machines and technology.

Expressing his expectations from the inaugural show, President, IMTMA and Managing Director, TaeguTec India, L. Krishnan said, “The exhibitions hold the key to opening avenues for penetrating the regional markets, exchange ideas, and share new technologies for enhancing productivity.”

Seco has increased the versatility of its MS2050 milling grade with new variations that bring optimised cutting performance to shops processing parts from titanium and high chromium content steels. The latest additions span a wide scope of insert sizes, radii and geometries along with special coating technology.

The grade’s new silver-colored PVD uni-coating provides enhanced heat-resistant capabilities as well as virtually eliminates the occurrence of built-up edge when cutting sticky materials such as titanium. And with the absence of built-up edge, the inserts last approximately 50 percent longer than existing products, which provides users with reduced tool costs.

Applicable for use with the company’s Turbo 10, Helical T4-08 and Highfeed cutters, the new MS2050 insert grades are available in a radii selection from 0.4 mm to 6.3 mm as well as positive geometries that can perform productive shoulder, face, copy and high-feed milling operations.

Every machinist that works on aluminum knows the headache this alloy offers but its high strength to weight ratio make it an imperative and highly popular material in the automotive and aerospace fields.

Yet, the main problems in machining aluminum remain the formation of built-up edges due to the adhesion of the materials used.

To ensure excellence in aluminum machining, TaeguTec has tackled the primary tooling concerns when machining aluminum such as minimizing the tendency of aluminum to stick to the tool cutting edge, ensuring there is good chip evacuation from the cutting edge, and making sure the core strength of the tool is sufficiently durable in order to withstand the cutting forces thrust upon it without breaking.

In this regard, TaeguTec has unveiled two new offerings under the ChaseAlu family that amalgamates the line’s power of machining aluminum with the hopes of machine shops to decrease their cost while increasing productivity.

Servicing all industries, the Asian metalworking giant’s ChaseAlu’s two new offerings, the XEVT 16 – which is an upgraded version of the current XECT 16 – and the XEVT 22, come at a time when productivity, safety and cost needs to improve greatly for companies to be viable in today’s quickly advancing world.

With high-speed machining requirements as the XEVT’s focus, both types are designed with a stable “V” shape bottom as well as a unique “stopper” for rigid clamping and stability.

Both sizes guarantee high precision and excellent surface roughness in aluminum and non-ferrous machining due to their high positive helical cutting edges and polished insert surfaces.

As such, both the XEVT 16 and XEVT 22 inserts always deliver outstanding productivity in demanding high-speed milling applications such as shouldering, slotting, face milling, step down milling, profiling, straight ramping and helical ramping.

Moreover, both XEVT types are available in several corner radii and the XEVT 16 inserts are interchangeable with the current TE90XE and TFM90XE cutters in order to enhance the productivity of current XECT 16 inserts currently being used.

The cutter’s simple screw clamping design ensures for proper seating and rigidity during machining in order that the tool stays firmly in place when handling high feeds and speeds on aluminum and non-ferrous materials.

Cutters are available as end mills, modular types, face mills and HSK type face mills.

In extensive real-world tests, TaeguTec’s ChaseAlu XEVT 16 clobbered the leading competitor’s similar offering by increasing productivity by an amazing 329 percent while also increasing tool life by a very respectable 33 percent on an aluminum workpiece.

Delcam will demonstrate the 2016 version of its PowerMILL  programming software for five-axis and high-speed machining on booth C05 in Hall 4 at the EMO exhibition to be held in Milan from 5th to 10th October.

The main enhancement in PowerMILL 2016 is the ability to mirror complete machining projects in one operation and to maintain automatically the machining characteristics, for example to choose automatically whether climb or conventional milling should be used.  Previously, only individual toolpaths could be mirrored.

Automatic mirroring saves considerable time whenever right- and left-hand versions are needed of a part or tool.  It will also be faster to program the machining of symmetrical objects since it will be possible to program one half and then mirror the toolpaths to complete the program.

To ensure that the mirroring has performed as expected, the new option can be used with the ability, introduced in PowerMILL 2015 R2, to undertake complete verification of a project for machine-tool issues such as collisions.  Comprehensive verification can be performed, including ensuring that the machine tool is capable of running the mirrored toolpaths, as well as checking for both machine-tool collisions and tooling collisions.

PowerMILL 2015 R2 also saw the introduction of the ability to simulate machine-tool movements as tool changes are executed.  The capability has been enhanced in the 2016 release by allowing more complex tool changes to be simulated, in particular those involving a carousel mechanism.

Other improvements to simulation in PowerMILL 2016 include a new form to print out the position of the cutting-tool tip during simulation, an auto-translucency option that will allow viewing of the table attach point at all times, and the ability to draw translucently the safe areas for rapid moves.

Development work has continued on the optional modules for PowerMILL as well as to the main program.  In particular, a new, more efficient strategy to machine single blades has been developed for the Blades, Blisks & Impellors module, and a constant-Z machining option has been added to the module for programming the machining of ribs into tooling.
