The technology enables digital systems to identify recurring patterns in data and apply the resulting findings to new data streams. In this way, trends and anomalies can be detected – in real time and within the running system. This allows manufacturing companies to use their petabytes of data in a way that benefits their business.

Intelligent monitoring prevents failures: 
Sensors are constantly becoming smaller and cheaper. For many companies, this means that it is now economically viable to monitor their entire range of machinery at all times. But to ensure that the thousands of measuring devices can generate insights from the data, it must be analyzed accordingly.

This is where machine learning really comes into its own. Smart applications constantly monitor the inner workings of the machines and at the touch of a button provide a precise picture of their condition.

Software can predict the quality of a product right from the early stages of production – with millimeter precision. Pattern recognition optimizes energy management:
The mix of fossil fuels and renewable energy is causing fluctuations in the power grid. This is forcing electricity producers and grid operators to adopt new strategies. Machine learning technologies enable electric utility companies to use historical consumption patterns to predict future demand and price fluctuations in real time.

This makes it possible to more precisely align cost prices with demand – ultimately leading to more cost-efficient operations.

Autonomous vehicles mobilize logistics:
Last but not least, machine learning paves the way for autonomous vehicles, which are set to be a crucial technology for automated logistics and intralogistics. It is only through deep learning that vehicles are able to recognize and correctly interpret their surroundings.

In the future, self-driving transport systems will assume many of the tasks of order pickers. When combined with predictive demand planning, this would enable the replenishment process to be partially automated.

High-performance cylinder drive from Bosch Rexroth optimizes mold oscillation. The electro-hydraulic high-performance linear drive from Bosch Rexroth makes it possible to control all oscillation parameters while casting. Thanks to this flexibility in terms of control, various curve shapes can be implemented in order to optimize the oscillation. Both the stroke amplitude and the oscillation frequency can be varied during the casting process along with the casting speed. If no radial forces come into play, users can opt for Rexroth’s cost-effective
high-performance cylinders. The high-performance series of cylinders are of modular design. The modular system comprises of five force levels from 16 to 250 kN with two predefined styles of mounting, those being “trunnion” or “head flange”. The equal effective areas of the cylinder ensure good controllability, even with highly dynamic applications up to a maximum frequency of 50 Hz. The basic version of the high-performance cylinder is fitted with a connection block, associated valves, pressure accumulator, damper accumulator and measuring points. Yamazaki Mazak has officially opened its newly expanded European Parts Centre in Leuven, Belgium and has announced further investments to strengthen its manufacturing and customer support across the region.

The Parts Centre was officially opened by Mr Takashi Yamazaki, Vice President Yamazaki Mazak Corporation, along with Mr Marcus Burton, European Group Managing Director and two special invitees; Mr Wim Biezepol of Metaaldraaiery de Eendracht, who bought the first Mazak machine sold in the Benelux region; and Mr Adrian Groves, Managing Director of Katron Engineering Precision, whose father bought the very first Mazak machine sold in the UK. Opening the new Parts Centre, Mr Takashi Yamazaki commented: “Over 40 years ago Yamazaki Mazak established its European operations here in Belgium. We recognised from the beginning that we must have world class solutions for logistics to ensure that spare parts are not only available but delivered quickly to where they are required. This investment in our European Parts Centre utilises the latest technology in parts handling and logistics to further improve our delivery performance.”

Mazak’s European Managing Director also used the occasion to announce further European investments. “Mazak’s European strategy is continuous investment in people, products and infrastructure. Also started construction of new Technology Centre in Hungary with increasing our European manufacturing capacity.

The newly expanded European Parts Centre is equipped with 4,600 sq metres of storage capacity, capable of holding 35,000 different parts and including a dedicated area for large parts. The facility is operational 365 days per year and processing approximately 20,000 items every month.
