Utilizing simulation early on in the design process enables engineers across multiple disciplines to more efficiently work together and better innovate product design by eliminating the need for manual data handling, which can cause delays and errors. At Supercomputing Conference 2016, Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced its partnership with ANSYS, (NASDAQ:ANSS), a global leader in engineering simulation software, to build industrial computer aided engineering (CAE) solutions.

Huawei and ANSYS will further their cooperation in high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud computing domains to deliver joint customer optimized performances and the best financial return on their software and hardware investments. Starting this year, the two parties will collaborate to build joint system testing and industrial CAE solution capabilities.

Also during SC16, the two organizations jointly released their Fluent Benchmarking white paper based on the Huawei FusionServer X6800. The Fluent Benchmarking white paper provides optimized system configurations for fluid simulation scenarios in the industry domain, which enables customers to focus on product design and manufacturing, and improve efficiency.

ANSYS  announced   that it will collaborate with GE to create model-based digital twin technology and disruptive commercial business models to deliver on the promise of the Industrial Internet of Things. This builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. ANSYS will demonstrate a variety of industry-specific digital twins at GE’s (NYSE: GE) Minds + Machines event in San Francisco, dedicated to building the digital industrial ecosystem.

Simulation technology is no longer solely used by engineers to design better products and reduce the costs of physical testing. Leading organizations are expanding the use of simulation into operations by creating digital twins – virtual representations of individual operating assets whose performance and productivity can be improved dynamically through simulation technology. Coupling the rich sensor data from increasingly smart industrial equipment with the predictive power of simulation, specific operating conditions can be analyzed and failure points predicted, unlocking billions of dollars in production and maintenance optimization.

Digital twins can live with the asset, providing a dynamic self-teaching model used to optimize its performance in conjunction with an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform. ANSYS, Inc. (NASDAQ:ANSS) today announced a leadership succession plan. James E. Cashman, who has served as ANSYS’ Chief Executive Officer since 2000, will become Chairman of the Board of Directors effective January 1, 2017. Dr. Ajei S. Gopal, a technology industry veteran who has served as a member of the ANSYS Board since 2011, has been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer effective immediately and will continue to serve on the Board. Dr. Gopal will become Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2017. Ronald W. Hovsepian, who currently serves as Chairman of the ANSYS Board, will assume the role of Lead Independent Director as part of this transition.

Mr. Hovsepian said, “We are grateful to Jim for his remarkable leadership. He led ANSYS’ transformation from a $50 million revenue company into the global market leader for simulation technology with nearly $1 billion in revenue, creating significant value for stockholders. He joined Silver Lake in April 2013 as an operating partner.

Dr. Gopal’s appointment as Mr. Cashman’s successor follows an extensive search conducted by the ANSYS Board with the assistance of Heidrick & Struggles, a leading independent executive search firm. The search included a review of both internal and external candidates.

The latest version of the ANSYS portfolio also enables engineers to combine advanced simulation technology across the portfolio or enlist external tools to address the complex engineering challenges inherent in today’s smart and connected products.

Fast, Accurate ANSYS Combustion Modeling Now Compatible with GT-Suite 2016

Powertrain designers will be able to use ANSYS 17.2 to better evaluate and optimize their products for fuel effects, efficiency, knocking and emissions.

ANSYS Chemkin-Pro, the gold standard for simulating complex chemical reactions for combustion systems, now adds plug-in compatibility with Gamma Technologies GT-Suite 2016. Through Chemkin-Pro, GT-SUITE users can gain access to detailed and validated reaction mechanisms in ANSYS Model Fuel Library. Users can employ this library as an alternative to the standard GT-SUITE models, when optimizing their internal combustion engines for fuel effects, efficiency, knocking and emissions.

Model-Based Software Development for Mission and Safety-Critical Applications

ANSYS model-based software development technologies have kept in step with increasing demands and certification standards for mission- and safety-critical applications across the automotive, rail, aerospace and energy industries. ANSYS 17.2 includes a complete workflow from software requirements through software design and code generation and ultimately to software testing and verification that has been expanded from C to also support Ada certified code generation for DO-178C, IEC 61508, EN 50128 and ISO 26262. Improved links to IBM DOORS and Dassault Systèmes Reqtify requirements management tools enable ANSYS SCADE solutions to be easily incorporated into existing workflows.

Also available with ANSYS 17.2 is a new SCADE Test environment capability to automate the testing of embedded displays and to provide enhanced support of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing with National Instruments Veristand and AUTOSAR system design import capabilities.

Enhanced Workflow for Antenna Design and Large 3-D Field Simulations

To meet the growing demand of wireless devices and the Internet of Things, ANSYS 17.2 delivers several advancements for antenna design and antenna placement. A new streamlined interface between ANSYS HFSS and ANSYS HFSS SBR+ (formerly Savant) enables antenna designs created in HFSS to easily be imported to the HFSS SBR+ advanced shooting and bouncing ray solver to validate the design and placement of the antenna.

Thermal Analysis for Upfront Electric Machine and Electro-Mechanical Design

Electrical machine designers can now evaluate cooling strategies thanks to enhancements in the ANSYS Maxwell-to-ANSYS Icepak interface. ANSYS RMxprt, the electrical machine synthesis tool in Maxwell, can now output the machine geometry and temperature characteristics of the materials used in the design. This eliminates the user requirement to manually add the temperature characteristics before doing the thermal simulation in Icepak.

ANSYS Workbench – One Platform Accelerating the Pace of Innovation

The ANSYS Workbench platform continues to unify the broad portfolio of ANSYS simulation technologies and tightly integrates the new capabilities available in this release. This allows simulation experts across domains to work more seamlessly together and also for expert and non-expert users to apply simulation coherently from concept to detailed design.

ANSYS, the global leader of engineering simulation software, announced today that it has acquired substantially all the assets of Delcross Technologies, a premier developer of computational electromagnetic simulation and radio frequency system analysis software. The acquisition will enable ANSYS users to understand how antennas interact within their operating environments and how this behavior affects the system’s overall ability to transmit and receive data without interference. Terms of the deal, which closed earlier this week, were not disclosed.

Driven by development for the Internet of Things, antennas are becoming increasingly pervasive across industries and products. Autonomous vehicles, smart metering, drones, bio-sensors and wearable electronics are just a few examples of products that now use one or more antennas and wireless systems to provide such services as voice, data communications, sensing and navigation. But these antennas and other electronic components can disrupt the operation of devices, a phenomenon known as electromagnetic interference, or EMI. Delcross’ solutions identify and help mitigate EMI issues.
