ISO-EcoTurn – the downsized insert series for reduced tooling costs is expanding to include VNMG inserts and holders

ISO-EcoTurn inserts, while downsized for tool economy, incorporate the identical chipbreaker geometry and thickness of regular-sized inserts to maintain the same cutting performance at a depth of cut up to 3 mm (0.12”). In conventional wisdom, when an insert is downsized the thickness of the insert is reduced as well. ISO-EcoTurn inserts, however, preserve the thickness of standard inserts in order to maintain the fracture resistance.

Thanks to reduced volume per insert, ISO-EcoTurn decreases cost per insert on a production line without compromising insert performance.

The new VNMG inserts and holders complement the existing ISO-EcoTurn series, offering a comprehensive ECO-tooling solution to the turning market. A VNMG1204 insert, among other new insert lines, is not only economical due to its reduced volume but also enables an ID turning as small as ø32 mm, versus a conventional VNMG1604 insert whose minimum ID turn-able is ø37 mm. The inserts are available in: a CVD grade T9100 for turning steel; a CVD grade T6100 and a PVD grade AH600, both for turning stainless steel; along with two cermet grades, NS9530 and GT9530. Chipbreakers for the new inserts include TSF for finishing steel, TM for semi-finishing steel, SS for finishing stainless steel, and SM for semi-finishing stainless steel. The new addition offers holders for OD and ID turnings, as well as holders with TungCap adaptations. TungTurn-Jet system is also available with holders for OD turning and with TungCap interface, which enhances swarf control and tool life through jet streaming coolant supply.

Tungaloy Corporation is adding a positive insert line to its existing FW & SW turning wiper insert range, allowing for feed rates and surface finish to dramatically improve in general turning operations.

Surface finish quality is directly influenced by feed rate and insert nose radius: the higher the feed rate, the rougher the surface generated by the edge of a given nose radius. In a conventional tactic, the feed rate is decreased to get a better surface quality. Tungaloy’s FW & SW wiper series have changed this through the effect of their uniquely developed cutting edges which allow the feed rate to be increased without deteriorating the surface finish quality. Wiper inserts allow running at up to double the recommended feed rate of a normal insert while still providing a surface quality a double that of a normal insert.

The new line of positive inserts incorporates SW chipbreakers, which will improve chip control in finishing and semi-finishing ID turning operations. This addition will complement the existing negative insert range in the FW & SW wiper series to cover wider range of applications to facilitate customers’ productivity increases.

The new positive inserts are available in T9100, a CVD grade for steel turning and NS9530, a cermet grade for thermal shock resistance, covering a great variety of workpiece materials.

DuoJustCut can now line up threading inserts for front as well as back turning operations, incorporating a highly rigid clamping method to prevent insert from moving during high feed machining. One type of threading insert and three types of parting-off inserts are now available for use in a single holder. This, along with the new round-shank toolholder lines will facilitate tooling in the Swiss machine market.

Tungaloy Corporation is now adding threading inserts with sharp cutting edges to its TetraMini-Cut insert series, which allows undercutting and finishing a flange wall.

Complemented by the new PVD grade, SH725, TetraMini-Cut’s new threading insert features sharp cutting edges, making it perfect for cutting fine pitch threads at a high cutting speed. The cutting edge is offset to one side of the insert, allowing threading all the way to the flange wall.

The threading inserts of the TetraMiniCut series are ground-finished and perfected for when high accuracy and quality are required in a threading operation. The innovative insert pocket shelters unused cutting edges from chip damages, assuring the full usage of all four cutting edges.

Tungaloy Corporation is introducing an expansion to the TungTurn-Jet line, the turning tool system with the high-pressure coolant capability – a perfect tool line for achieving Accelerated Machining.

Until now coolant was simply applied by flooding the cutting area, but often was the case that chips generated during machining intruded the coolant flow, preventing it from reaching the exact spot where needed. Tungaloy’s TungTurn-Jet’s high-pressure, double jet coolant system delivers jets of coolant to the optimum position close to the cutting edge and increases productivity by forming short chips in machining difficult-to-cut materials like heat-resistant super alloys. Tool life is also extended using the second coolant jet from the frontal hole to the cutting point to prevent flank wear on the insert.
Even using normal coolant pressure and existing equipment, TungTurn-Jet improves tool life, and benefits can be enjoyed for stainless and alloy steels as well as heat-resistant super alloys in aerospace as well as automotive and general engineering industries.

This expansion also adds new lines to the ISO-EcoTurn range to further expand its turning capability in a multitude of industries.

Tungaloy Corporation further expands the industry’s leading head-exchangeable gundrill line, DeepTriDrill with options down to a diameter range of 14-15.9 mm.

Deep hole drilling is a challenging operation and often creates a bottleneck in holemaking shops around the globe. The brazed gundrill or solid twist drill are staple tools in such operations. A typical brazed gundrill has a single-point, non-coated carbide tip. Due to these properties, high parameter drilling has not been attainable. The solid twist drill is suitable/better for high feed drilling; however, curved holes and chip clogging are common setbacks with this type of tool. These traditional deep hole drills come inseparable from reconditioning and inventory management, which incur significant extra costs for every deep drilling shop.

DeepTriDrill features one insert and two guide-pads oriented in an optimized position on the drill head. This achieves tight tolerances with circularity and straightness as well as an excellent surface finish, which a brazed gundrill could traditionally attain. The insert incorporates chipsplitters on the chipbreaker geometry, which shatter chips into smaller pieces to facilitate the evacuation and reduce the cutting force, enabling a higher feed rate than traditional gundrills. The coated insert and guide-pads also allows DeepTriDrill to higher cutting speeds, which have been difficult to reach with brazed gundrills.

DeepTriDrill not only increases machining performance but also facilitates inventory management thanks to its indexable system. This small diameter range expansion complements DeepTriDrill, further enhancing its product positioning in the deep hole drilling market for high productivity and economy.

The asymmetric insert shape secures rigid clamping and prevents dislocation under the extreme operating conditions, providing excellent surface finish and stable, long tool life. This expansion includes new tool diameters of 8, 10, 25, 30, and 32 mm, greatly expanding its application area.

The new additions include external ISO-metric threads with pitches 3.5 and 4.0 mm, external/internal round DIN405, and external/internal partial V-profile 60° threads with pitches from 3.5 through 5.0 mm (7 to 5 TPI).

These Class M tolerance threading inserts incorporate a 3D chipbreaker on the rake surface for smooth chip evacuation, which typically becomes a bottleneck in threading operations. The price structure is set so that these new additions offer up to 40% more competitive than others offering conventional ground inserts with a flat top rake.

BXA20 delivers predictable and long tool life in a wide range of applications from roughing to finishing, including de-scaling of case-hardened steel, which usually requires a large stock to be removed. This innovative CBN grade exhibits excellent wear and fracture resistance in a low to medium cutting speed range, with enhanced tool life in continuous as well as interrupted cuts.

The BXA20 series is available with a built-in wiper for a superb surface finish at high feed rates or a chipbreaker for smooth chip control in large stock removal, covering a wide variety of applications.

Main Features

  • BXA20’s multi-layered PVD coating is twice as thick as the conventional grade to improve wear resistance. Tungaloy Corporation is pleased to announce the expansion of DrillForce-Meister, a head-changeable drill series.

DrillForce-Meister is a tool series for large-diameter holemaking (drill diameter: ø26.0 – ø41.0 mm) that features two effective cutting edges for high speed and high productivity.

DrillForce-Meister’s clamping system uses a unique error-proof asymmetric seat and a screw setting, which allows easy and swift head replacement by simply loosening and tightening the screw. Since a new drill head can be mounted without removing the drill body from the spindle, a full re-setting and re-indexing process is eliminated, shortening entire tool change time. By replacing the head screw regularly, the drill body can be used for an even longer period, reducing tooling cost and inventory requirements.

The drill head is supported by a wide contact area on the seat so the drill can withstand the high cutting force generated during high-feed drilling. The insert seat is designed with precision, providing excellent repeatability and minimizing run-out.

The cutting edge is prepared to increase the coating adhesion of a highly reliable AH725 grade. The tool life has been prolonged by a smart combination of cutting edge geometry and grade property.
