Renishaw is collaborating with Dassault Systèmes, a world leading 3D modelling, simulation and industrial operations software provider, as part of its commitment to provide and enhance software for metal additive manufacturing (AM).

Users of Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform applications can now design, optimise, simulate and set up AM builds directly for production on Renishaw’s AM systems, which build 3D metal parts using laser powder bed fusion technology. Dedicated CATIA applications include a range of tools to develop and perform topological optimisation of parts. DELMIA is employed to generate the process from build set up to generation of the necessary laser paths (scan paths). Simulation of the entire AM build, including stress analysis and distortion prediction, is carried out in SIMULIA.

Both Renishaw and Dassault Systemes have software which is accessible to authorised third parties and this played a key role in the collaboration. It ensures the laser paths (scan paths) generated by DELMIA are optimised for Renishaw metal AM systems and produce the best quality builds. This open ecosystem ethos enables collaboration with other experts working towards the common goal of creating a streamlined AM software experience.

“The 3DExperience platform coupled with QuantAM enables parts to be produced accurately from the outset, which is of tangible time and cost benefit to users. It marks the beginning of many enhancements we have in the pipeline to improve the AM user experience and streamline the front-end of the manufacturing process” explained Stephen Anderson, Renishaw’s Director of Group Software.

This process control software is part of Renishaw’s wider mission to provide end-to-end solutions for innovative manufacturing and support the managed integration of AM into the production workspace.

Renishaw has a heritage of developing software programs for its metrology and healthcare products, where accurate measurement of complex parts and verification against CAD models are critical. By collaborating with Dassault Systèmes, and other experts in their fields, Renishaw seeks to foster an environment where the best software tools can be advanced for AM users.

Online 3DEXPERIENCE will enable anyone, anywhere to discover ‘Feeding the planet, energy for life’ event theme.

Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, one of the leaders in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, recently announced that Expo Milano 2015, the upcoming World Expo, is developing an online 3D experience powered by Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, that will enable virtual visitors to discover the expo’s eco-sustainability theme, ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.

The 2015 World Expo will take place in Milan, Italy from May 1 to October 31, 2015 and will examine the challenge of balancing nutrition for mankind with respect for the planet’s resources. To support this focus and make the event accessible to all, Expo Milano 2015 is creating an online, virtual model of the one million square meter exhibition site.  Virtual visitors will be able to immerse themselves in a real-time 3D universe and explore the venue’s buildings at their own pace, starting in December 2014 and throughout the event’s duration.  Interactive 3D features, 360° views, sound effects and high definition images will bring the event to life in a visual, vibrant and informative manner, and help contribute to global awareness of the planet’s nutritional resources.

“Expo Milano 2015 is expected to be one of the largest international events of the decade and the subject of nutrition and sharing sustainable solutions resonate in any corner of the globe,” said Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015 and CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.A.  “Reduction of waste and eco-friendly food choices are sample topics that will be featured during the event.  In parallel, creating a 3D tool that offers access to virtual visitors who otherwise would not be able to attend or who wish to complement their visit makes what will take place that much more compelling.”

“Society as a whole is placing increasing demands for its survival on a planet with diminishing resources, and we must address this reality or risk the well-being of future generations,” added Bernard Charlès, President and CEO, Dassault Systèmes.  “Only through seeing and experiencing can society fully discover how a harmony between product, nature and life can positively impact the planet. By offering visualization tools that provide meaningful 3D experiences, we can help inspire imagination and innovation that will meet this challenge and create a more sustainable future.”

At Expo Milano 2015, over 20 million attendees will experience cultural and culinary traditions and technologies involved in food production from over 140 exhibiting countries, in addition to participating in events, shows, conferences and meetings that address the environment and urbanization.

Dassault Systèmes offers a flexible environment for collaborative product lifecycle management.

CRI Pumps has deployed Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and its Industrial Equipment industry solution experiences. This will facilitate quicker response to customer requirements and standardisation of its entire design process. CRI Pumps selected ENOVIA over key competition and it will be implemented across domestic pumps to begin with and later be rolled across CRI Pumps’ entire product line. ENOVIA will help them improve data management, data and part reusability and project complexity.

CRI Pumps were keen to improve control over their product development processes and to address certain challenges including  Data management, Data/Part reusability, Single Version of Truth, Project Complexity, ETO (Engineer to Order) and ETM ( Engineer to Manufacture).

Commenting on the deployment, CRI Pumps said, “The entire approach, intelligence and the solutions offered by Dassault Systèmes will assist us in achieving a superior control over the product development process something that is critical to our business as we grow. Integrating ENOVIA and SolidWorks will strengthen our processes and our design excellence simultaneously.”

Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE strategy and technologies will enable CRI Pumps to redefine the production of Domestic Pumps in terms of both quality and performance by addressing business situations in a unified environment. CRI Pumps will strengthen its leadership in the pump manufacturing industry through differentiation and innovation in a highly competitive environment.

Expressing his enthusiasm at the partnership with CRI Pumps Dr. Chandan Chowdhury, Managing Director-India, Dassault Systèmes said, “We are delighted to offer our solutions to India’s leading pump manufacturer. The manufacturing industry in India is core of the economy and I believe that optimum business techniques and innovation can only assist to design and plan complex projects, ensuring on time and on budget delivery for this sector. CRI Pumps will leverage our 3DExperience Platform™, to enable them to benefit from the true rewards of collaboration”.
