Seco recently released two new solid-carbide end mills that significantly boost metal removal rates and offer exceptionally long tool life.  The Jabro-HFM JHF181 is an excellent choice for high-feed milling strategies in hardened steels and nickel-based alloys, while the Jabro-Solid2 JS564 and JS565 represent Seco’s continued focus on developing tools for advanced roughing strategies for a wide range of materials such as steels, stainless steels and titanium alloys.

As the latest member in the Seco high feed family, the new Jabro-HFM JHF181 offers the same high productivity as other Seco high feed tooling solutions. These high-feed milling cutters increase metal removal rates by up to 30 percent over traditional methods. The JHF181 is especially effective at machining complex parts that require long tool overhangs and a mix of multiple axial and radial machining operations. It provides up to 30 percent more tool life than other comparable solid-carbide end mills when processing ISO H materials. Seco’s new HXT coating adds a hard layer to the JHF181, which results in advanced thermal protection and high wear resistance.

The JHF181 is available in 2-, 4- or 5-flute options with cutting diameters from 2 mm to 16 mm and length options ranging from 2xD to 7xD. This end mill also has through-tool coolant capability for diameters from 6 mm to 12mm.

Designed for advanced roughing strategies, the new Jabro-Solid2 JS564 and JS565 offer 20 percent longer tool life than their predecessors due to stable tapered cores, polished NXT coatings and other high-performance features. The JS564 and JS565 provide a relatively high radial engagement while maintaining high feeds and speeds for advanced roughing passes. Furthermore, the positive frontal teeth geometries on these two end mills make them successful in axial and helical interpolation operations.

New, optimised chip splitter options create small chips when using long cutting lengths, ensuring the best possible chip evacuation. This proves especially beneficial when machining deep pockets and reduces operational risks, such as tool breakage and workpiece scrap.

The JS564 and JS565 are available in 4- and 5-flute designs in a broad range of cutting diameters and lengths. The JS565 is also available without chip splitters. For both the JS564 and JS565, cylindrical shank diameters are available from 3 mm to 20 mm, and Weldon shank diameters are available from 6 mm to 20 mm. All of these options are stocked products.

Following market demand, ISCAR is expanding the options of the EC-H4S-CF endmills family by adding tools with corner radii to the already existing chamfered corner tools.

The new EC-H4S-CF endmills with corner radii are available in 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 mm diameters.

EC-H4S-CF tools feature 1xD short cutting edge length, hub section diameter 7% larger than the  regular-type endmills and a radial relief angle that features a single-angle unlike the regular-type with three relief stages.

All the above led to a stronger tool design and reduced production costs that enabled price reduction.

The new tools are made from grades IC608 and IC900, recommended for hardened steel (IC900 for up to 45 HRC and IC608 for 45-60 HRC) and milling alloy steel at moderate to high cutting speeds.

The new EC-H4S-CF tools should be offered against the competitor’s exchangeable head tools and for short (1xD) D.O.C. applications that require round corners.

ISCAR is introducing a new evolution of the CHATTERFREE solid carbide endmills for high speed/trochoidal milling and finishing operations with specially designed multi-flute endmills with different flute helix angles and variable pitch.

The unique geometry of the different flute helix and the variable pitch EC-H…CF line provides the best chatter free tool for high speed/trochoidal milling, featuring high productivity on most material types such as alloyed and stainless steel, and high temperature alloys.

Trochoidal milling is a programming technique applying a small radial width of cut, high cutting speed and feed per tooth. It provides long tool life and high productivity on most materials, but especially on high temperature alloys where chipbreaking and heat disposal is usually very problematic.

The new EC-H… CF endmills are divided into two families:

  • EC-H7…CF featuring 7 flutes in 6-20 mm diameters
  • EC-H.. CF featuring 6-20 flutes in 6-20 mm diameters

The EC-H7…CF 7 flute tools feature more open gullets than the 6-20 flute tools. Therefore EC-H7…CF tools can machine at radial width of cut (ae) of up to 0.1xD, while the EC-H.. CF tools can machine at ae of up to 0.06xD.

Both endmill families are made from the hard PVD coated grade IC902. This grade provides long tool life, and combined with the unique geometry, features excellent surface finish on most workpiece materials.

Features

  • Different flute helix and variable pitch, for a chatter free effect
  • Special geometry – most recommended for high speed/trochoidal machining on most material types
  • Low cutting forces
  • Excellent for finishing operations
  • Unique flute geometry provides good surface finish
  • Available in grade IC902, providing long tool life even on hard materials
