Having revolutionised the industry in the past with the\u00a0Tiger\u00b7tec\u00a0and Tiger\u00b7tec\u00a0Silver coatings, the machining specialists at Walter AG in T\u00fcbingen\u00a0are now making another technological advance. Walter is one of the world’s first companies\u00a0to present a new technology platform: Tiger\u00b7tec Gold \u2013 with the WKP35G milling grade.\u00a0Compared with the CVD aluminium oxide-coated grades currently in use, the new Tiger\u00b7tec\u00a0Gold with a titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN) coating once again boasts significantly\u00a0improved properties \u2013 resulting in longer tool life, increased productivity and greater process\u00a0reliability. This is partially due to the innovative, special “ultra low” coating process (ULPCVD)\u00a0that Walter has used to establish tomorrow’s technology today.<\/p>\n
The new TiAlN coating from Walter is their response to growing demands. The Walter\u00a0developers have been using Tiger\u00b7tec\u00a0Gold for some time now in special applications \u2013 and\u00a0to great effect. They recorded markedly improved properties compared with other coatings:\u00a0Considerably higher wear resistance on the flank faces, reduced formation of hairline cracks\u00a0and greater resistance to plastic deformation. Numerous practical tests on steel and cast\u00a0iron materials demonstrated considerably longer tool life \u2013 often by up to 200 %. In\u00a0addition, the gold-coloured top layer also facilitates wear detection.
