{"id":9780,"date":"2016-10-17T16:00:31","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T16:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/old\/\/?p=9780"},"modified":"2016-10-17T16:00:31","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T16:00:31","slug":"mitsubishis-headline-cast-iron-turning-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/mitsubishis-headline-cast-iron-turning-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitsubishi\u2019s headline cast for iron turning applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For high performance cast iron turning, Mitsubishi\u00a0Materials has now extended its renowned MC5000 series\u00a0of turning inserts for cast iron with the launch of several\u00a0new geometries for the MC5005 and MC5015 CVD coated\u00a0grades.<br \/>\nMC5005 introduces an innovative new ultra thick Al2O3\u00a0layer that is twice the thickness of conventional coatings.\u00a0This combines with a TiCN nano-texture layer that is\u00a0bound by Mitsubishi\u2019s patented \u201cTough Grip Technology\u201d \u00a0to outperform conventional carbide and ceramic grades\u00a0when conducting continuous cutting of grey cast iron. This\u00a0ultra thick layer prevents the coating from peeling and\u00a0eliminates edge chipping that is a common occurrence with\u00a0competitor grades. Working in tandem with an enhanced<br \/>\ncarbide substrate, the result is significantly improved tool\u00a0life and surface finishes together with greater process\u00a0reliability and reduced tooling costs.<br \/>\nComplementing MC5005, the MC5015 series is composed\u00a0of the same substrate and coating layer technology as the\u00a0MC5005, but has been developed for interrupted machining<br \/>\napplications. With a thicker TiCN layer than MC5005, the\u00a0MC5015 series has an ideal distribution of hardness and\u00a0toughness that provides extreme plastic deformation<br \/>\nresistance nearer the surface whilst delivering overall\u00a0toughness to prevent insert breakage under heavy loads\u00a0during interrupted machining. The result remarkable\u00a0performance and tool life through prolonged wear\u00a0resistance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9786\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9786\" style=\"width: 278px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9786 \" src=\"https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/old\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/MC5000_E-mmc-mfgtechupdate-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"MC5000_E-mmc--mfgtechupdate\" width=\"278\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/MC5000_E-mmc-mfgtechupdate-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/MC5000_E-mmc-mfgtechupdate-210x136.jpg 210w, https:\/\/mfgtechupdate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/MC5000_E-mmc-mfgtechupdate.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9786\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ULTRA THICK COATING LAYERS The newly developed CVD coating offers better coating adhesion and due to its thick Al2O3 layer, the result is improved reliability due to a higher chipping resistance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new inserts, as with the whole range, are available\u00a0with Mitsubishi\u2019s LK, MK and RK chipbreaker designs\u00a0and also available with a flat top geometry for unstable<br \/>\ncutting and for cast iron with a thick layer of skin. The LK\u00a0chipbreaker provides a positive land with a sharp cutting\u00a0edge to provide low cutting resistance whilst the MK\u00a0chipbreaker incorporates the optimal balance between edge\u00a0sharpness and edge strength for more general cast iron\u00a0applications. Furthermore, the RK chipbreaker has tripled\u00a0the conventional ratio of the seating area and land width to\u00a0enhance stability when conducting intermittent machining\u00a0and when removing scale.<br \/>\nTo simplify the insert selection process for the end user,\u00a0Mitsubishi has introduced its new Easy Selection Breaker\u00a0System. The chipbreaker designations are broken down in to\u00a0L, M and R for Light, Medium and Rough machining whilst the\u00a0K designation identifies the ISO material specification. This\u00a0innovative yet simple approach provides the customer with\u00a0clarity and simplicity when identifying the required insert\u00a0grade and chipbreaker types.
